ICAI exam registration begins from today i.e. 4thOctober’2018. All the information about the form and the eligibility conditions can be seen on their official examination website which is icaiexam.icai.org.

The ICAI or commonly known as the CA exam is conducted by Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). By the help of this exam, the institute helps many students realise their dream of becoming chartered accountants. In order to access the candidates, the ICAI conducts different examinations which correspond to different levels available in the Chartered Accountancy course, in accordance to the guidelines set by Chartered Accountants Regulations 1988.

The names of the examinations conducted by ICAI are:

1.Common Proficiency Test (CPT)

2.Intermediate (Integrated Professional Competence) Examination

3.Final Examination

The candidate who clears all these levels becomes a practicing Chartered Accountant.

ICAI 2018 Exam Process

The ICAI 2018 exam requires the willing candidates to fill up the registration form online. The payments for application fee online can be done through VISA or MASTER credit/debit cards, only   the exam fee will be charged if done online.  The examination fee is Rs 1000 for centres in India, for Abu Dhabi, Doha, Dubai & Muscat centres it is US $ 300 and for Kathmandu it is INR 1700 .

ICAI will be organizing the Common Proficiency Test (CPT) on Sunday, 16th December 2018 in two sessions:

  • Fundamentals of Accounting and Mercantile Law: 10:30am to 12:30pm.
  • General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude: 2pm to 4pm for these two papers.

The ICAI CPT 2018 examination will be held in 196 centres in India and 5 centres in Overseas, and The CPT 2018 exam result will be out on 16th January 2019.

Lets take a look at a detailed pattern of each exam:

1.Common Proficiency Test (CPT)

 The CPT exam comprises of objective type multiple choice questions . The examination carrying 200 marks. And it is divided into two sessions ( 2 hours each). The question paper will be divided into four sections.

  1. Fundamentals of Accounting                           
  2. Mercantile Laws
  3. General Economics
  4. Quantitative Aptitude

The Fundamentals of Accounting and Mercantile paper is 60 and 40 marks while General Economics and Quantitative Aptitude is 50 marks for each paper.

2.Intermediate (Integrated Professional Competence) Examination

There is negative marking of 1/4 mark deduction for each wrong answer.The candidates are given the option to opt for Hindi medium Question Paper Booklet for answering the questions. The question paper is available in both English and Hindi.

The Intermediate IPC course exam has seven papers and the pattern is as follows:

  1. Accounting
  2. Business Law, Ethics and Communication
  3. Cost Accounting and Financial Management
  4. Taxation
  5. Advanced Accounting
  6. Auditing and Assurance
  7. Information Technology and Strategic Management

Talking about the success rate, the percentage of candidates clearing the CA exam dipped by almost 2.45% in May 2015 from 8.25% in the previous years. And now it stands at 5.75% every year. For clearing all the levels of CA exam a candidate needs to be of average intelligence and he should combine it with plenty of hard work to crack the exam.
